Fusion Belly Dance

In this dynamic and engaging class, students will explore the exciting world of fusion belly dance, blending traditional belly dance techniques with influences from various other dance styles. We will focus on mastering the foundational movements of belly dance, including isolations, shimmies, and fluid hip work, while integrating elements from contemporary and modern genres. In this 6-week series, we'll explore the fundamentals of belly dance musicality, learn common Middle Eastern rhythms, and develop the skills to play finger cymbals while dancing.

We'll cover:

✨ Common Middle Eastern rhythms and how to recognize them
✨ Finger cymbal technique and coordination
✨ Playing cymbals in different dance contexts, including Classical Oriental, Modern Oriental, Pop, Folkloric styles, and Drum Solos

This class is suitable for dancers of multiple levels, with options provided for those newer to cymbals as well as more experienced dancers looking to refine their skills.

Introduction to Drum Solos

Ready to dive into the exciting world of belly dance drum solos?

In this workshop, we'll explore the fundamentals of dancing to percussion-driven music. Learn how to recognize accents and rhythms, choose movements that match the music, layer shimmies and isolations, and build confidence interpreting drum solos with energy and expression.

Through drills, combinations, and guided exercises, you'll develop practical tools for approaching drum solos with greater musicality, precision, and creativity.

Suitable for: Dancers with some prior belly dance experience.

Folkloric Dances of Egypt: An Introduction

Belly dance is only one part of Egypt's rich dance landscape. In this lecture-style workshop, we'll explore some of Egypt's most important folkloric dance traditions and the cultural contexts from which they emerged.

Through discussion, video examples, music analysis, and movement demonstrations, we'll examine styles such as Saidi, Nubian, Fellahi, Ghawazee, Alexandrian, and more. We'll discuss their history, regional influences, costuming, music, and how folkloric traditions have shaped modern Raqs Sharqi.

This workshop is ideal for dancers who want to deepen their cultural understanding, improve their performance authenticity, and gain a broader appreciation of Egyptian dance.
